Executive Functioning (EF) refers to a set of skills that allow us to organize and plan our behavior and monitor our thoughts in order to work more efficiently and effectively. The brain needs this skill set to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses. EF Groups will teach students specific, developmentally-appropriate skills and ways of thinking to help them succeed in the classroom and at home. When children have the opportunity to develop executive function skills, they experience lifelong benefits. These skills are crucial for learning and development. EF Gropus also provide the time and support needed to apply those skill and routines as students complete their own homework assignments. Improving time management and organization skills Coping with feeling overwhelmed with homework/academic tasks Understanding one’s strengths and ways to build on them Responding flexibly to changing in schedule or routine, flexible thinking Initiating tasks and being able to ignore distractions and resist temptations, self-monitoring About the group: EF Group allows students the unique opportunity to learn and practice skills in a supportive, supervised environment making school work less stressful.
