Social Emotional Academic Learning Groups promote students' social and emotional skills which impact student behavior and academic performance. These weekly group sessions are recommended for students ages 7-12 and provide an opportunity to acquire and effectively apply the attitude, knowledge and skills that are necessary to understand, manage and regulate emotions and behaviors. In these weekly sessions students will have the opportunity to work on important social and emotional skills like: Coping with stress and anxiety related to school/homework Reframing negative statements, assertiveness Understanding one’s strengths and ways to build on them Handling rejection, teasing and bullying Coping with frustration related to learning About the group: Group lessons are based on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Social Thinking. Instructor, Lisa Ankeny, previously ran groups at University of Denver Child and Family Clinic, JFK Partners and Children’s Hospital Colorado. Her clinical experience ensures that this is a productive, meaningful and effective group. Regular attendance is imperative to promote a sense of continuity and comfort among group members.
